Filling An Icing Bag

Pipping can be difficult to begin with, so here is a little help on how to make is as simple and easy as possible with no leaky mixture. Hope it helps...

-
Hold the piping bag just above the nozzle. Pull the rest of the bag over your hand.

- Spoon some of the mixture into the bag, pulling it from the spoon using your covered hand.

- When the bag is full enough, squeeze the mixture towards the nozzle to remove any air pockets. Twist the remaining fabric at the other end of the bag around the mixture.

- Fill a disposable piping bag with the icing and, starting at the outside edge of a cupcake, pipe around the cupcake in a spiral towards the centre.

- Fill a piping bag fitted with a large star nozzle with the icing and, starting at the outside edge of a cupcake, pipe around the edge of the cupcake in a spiral towards the centre. When you reach the top, pull up quickly to finish the swirl.

Tips and Tricks
- For a ribbon effect, begin on the edge and put more pressure on the piping bag so that the frosting almost piles up and creates a ribbon effect

- For two tone icing, just add the first colour to the piping bag along one side then with a thin spatula slide the second colour in from tip to end.
